4.3: Dealing with discrimination
In this activity students consider how to address different types of discrimination which exist in society.
Tasks
- Following on from the activity Discrimination covered in the last section, display the two columns of Handout 15: Types of discrimination previously completed by the class.
- Ask students to focus on the remaining two columns of the handout. As a class, ask students to complete columns C and D focusing on how we can make things fair for all.
- When all of the columns have been completed, divide the class into small groups of three or four. Divide the completed handout into rows and give a different row to each group. Ask groups to transfer information from the rows on to large sheets of paper. These sheets may be decorated if you wish.
- Display the completed sheets in the classroom as examples of how to address different types of discrimination which exist in society.
- Where this activity is to be used in isolation, it will be necessary to first complete the activity Discrimination contained in the previous section.
- This activity may be conducted as a whole class activity if preferred.
